Summary
Born near Morrison, IL; deaf at 7 from brain fever. Graduated the Colorado School for the deaf and taught there for a while. Resigned that position in 1884 to take up printing, later also working as a reporter. Co-founder of Merry World (Denver, CO) in 1887; in 1888, moved to LaJunta, CO, and started the Derrick; later, was a foreman at the Daily news (Denver) and then the Pueblo Evening Star. Also associated in various capacities with the Kansas City Daily Times and a weekly called King's Life. Later took up with a bedding company, taking contracts for making mattresses.
