Schyman, William "Bill"

Born deaf in Chicago; went to public schools, graduating Lane Tech High School in Chicago. Attended DePaul University, where he became the first deaf player and a star on the basketball team; drafted by the Baltimore Bullets pro team after college graduation in 1953, then for the Harlem Globetrotters on the "opposition" team for 3 years; also for the Philadelphia Spas in the old Eastern Professional League. Retired from pro basketball to work for IBM; became involved with deaf amateur basketball in clubs, the AAAD, coach at Gallaudet College, and in the World Games for the Deaf.
