Summary
Deaf at 15 months; graduated the Ontario Institution for the Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb (1882-1891). Married Prudence Elizabeth McRichie in 1896. 1904-1912, they homesteaded a farm near Lipton, ON, where he also lent his carpentry skills to his neighbor farmers. 1912, they moved to Ft. Qu'Appelle, Saskatoon, where he opened a carpentry shop, but they returned to Ontario the next year where he worked for a while in a refrigerator factory, then as a trim carpenter on new buildings.
