Summary
Born deaf to an unmarried mother, who gave him up to an orphanage. Attended St. Vincent's School for Deaf Children in Glasgow. Had a drinking problem and was usually unemployed, as he was when stabbed and then pushed out a 14th-floor window by Meldrum Hazell (q.v.), a drinking buddy. Hazell claimed that Sutherland had made a homosexual pass at him, but also claimed "I don't know" when asked about his motive for killing Sutherland.
