On Jan. 6, 2000, slipped on ice and accidently jostled an American soldier standing guard at the NATO military base in Vitina, Kosovo. Challenged to explain himself, he was allegedly beaten by the American soldier when he did not speak and used sign language instead. The U.S. Army launched an investigation of the incident later that month.
