Summary
In 1745, the Jacobean army, fleeing from the Duke of Cumberland's army, was quartered at Derby when the Duke's soldiers arrested a young deaf and mute man, name unknown, at Sutton Coldfield as a spy. When the young man could not answer the soldiers' questions, he was summarily beheaded without benefit of trial. Legend says his ghost still haunts the site.
