Summary
Born near Paynesville, KY; deafened at age 10, but did not enter the Kentucky School for the deaf until age 15, finishing in 3 years. Became foreman of the school's carpentry shop for 5 years, then worked as an itinerant carpenter and cabinetmaker in the West, several times being foreman in planing mills and furniture factories and once foreman of the Louisiana School for the deaf carpentry shop. Started his own successful building and contractor business; invented a self-acting corkscrew. Was living and working in the Oklahoma Territory as of 1902.
