Summary
Born at Little Anse, NS; deaf in infancy probably from jaundice. Did not begin schooling until age 8, when she entered the Halifax School for the Deaf, ultimately graduating, then spent 2 years at the Atlantic Technological Vocational Centre, learning dressmaking. Worked for a furrier and then a clothing manufacturer; in 1971, began offering alterations and custom sewing services on her own to her hometown community; also made craft items to supplement her sewing income.
