Lived in Edinburgh, Scotland, with his best friend, William Young (q.v.), also deaf. For several months, Young had suspected Boyle of stealing some money from him. On the evening of November 10, 1978, the two went out drinking, then returned home for more drinking. Young accused Boyle again of the theft, and the two men fought, Young stabbing Boyle to death in a drunken stupor. When he sobered up and realized what he had done, Young turned himself in to police and after trial was sentenced to life in prison.
