Summary
Deafened from spinal meningitis about age 5 or 6; attended Manitoba School for the Deaf 1929-1939 and one year at the Mackay School for the Deaf, Montreal. Quit to enlist with the Highlanders during World War II, being inducted as a private, but his deafness was discovered after 3 days and he was discharged. Postwar, after initial training and work as a printer, he transferred to work as a baker and remained in that field for over 30 years. Advocate for deaf people serving in the military in support roles. Active in Canadian deaf organizations.
