Born deaf in Whittier, CA; attended public schools for a while before entering the Lexington School for the Deaf. At age 12, she transferred to the Austine School for the Deaf, graduating there. Earned an AA degree from Eastfield Community College (TX). Also attended evening classes at Austin Community College, studying jewelry making. Though she makes and sells artistic jewelry, her "day" job is tax examiner for the US Internal Revenue Service.
