Hard of hearing. A close collaborator and friend of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey. Prime Minister of Turkey, Oct 1923-Nov 1924; President, 1938-1950; member of Parliament, 1950-1960. Uncharacteristically of politicians, he was unafraid to acknowledge his deafness, openly carrying his hearing aid everywhere.
