Summary
Born at Finlay, OH; possibly brother of Albert C. Powell (q.v.). Attended the Ohio state school for the deaf, ages 11-18, where he learned harness-making. Entered that trade in various Ohio towns, eventually setting up his own shop in Finlay, but soon sold it and moved to Akron. After years of work at a shop there, he bought out the shop's owner and ran it himself.
