Summary
Born at Guelph, Ontario; entered the Belleville Institution for the deaf at age 12, graduating 1887. Apprenticed himself to a firm of lithographers and engravers in Toronto, continuing to study meanwhile at the Toronto Art League. Left Toronto in search of better opportunities; after trying at least 6 other American cities, he settled in Baltimore, MD. Married Bessie Keefer Riall in 1895.
