Summary
Born deaf at Hingham, MA; at age 12, was the third student enrolled in the American School for the deaf; taught at that School until retirement in June 1872. A delegate to the first Convention of Ameican Instructors of the Deaf; died at Hingham from heart disease. At least one source claims he is the first American-born deaf teacher of the deaf, though this is contested by Levi Backus (q.v.) and Abigail Dillingham (q.v.).
