Summary
Born deaf in North Battleford, SK attended the R.J.D. Williams School for the Deaf through grade 10, then mainstreamed with difficulties in Walter Murray Collegiate and Holy Cross High Schools in Saskatchewan, 1979. Graduated Gallaudet College in 1985. A champion speed skater starting at age 13 onward. Skated for Canada at the 8th World Winter Games for the Deaf, 1975, winning 3 events. Also a winner in cross-country and cycling competitions. 1987, an instructor in the minimal language skills program of the Canadian Hearing Society, then 1990-1993 coordinator of the college prep program for the deaf at George Brown College, and 1993-1996, chair of the Deaf Education Center at that college. Starting 1996, was principal of the Manitoba School for the Deaf, the first deaf woman in Canada to hold such a position.
