A priest in the Anglican Church and bishop of Johannesburg; during the days of South African apartheid, spoke out against the racist system; after the fall of apartheid, continued to be a spokesman for the rights of people everywhere. Winner of the 1984 Nobel Prize for Peace for his work against apartheid.
