Summary
Born deaf at Calshot Castle and educated at the Kent Road Institution for the Deaf and Dumb in London. Worked as a lithographer, them moved into painting, especially of ships and the sea. He produced a book in two volumes, The Royal Navy in a Series of Illustrations. Other plates of his paintings were displayed in a 1987 book Ships of the Victorian Navy. Many of his paintings are in the collection of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London. Lived on the Isle of Wight, where he died.
