Summary
Born deaf into a deaf family and grew up in Gooding, ID; attended the Idaho School for the Deaf ages 3-5, then a hearing school until 6th grade, when she went back to the deaf school for 3 more years. In high school, she split her time between the deaf school and Gooding High School (hearing) during her freshman year, then full-time at the hearing school her junior and senior years, graduating 1981. Spent one year in Finland as an exchange student, then entered Gallaudet College in fall of 1982, graduating 1986. While at Gallaudet, worked as an intern in the office of Senator Edward Kennedy.
