Summary
Born in Philadelphia and deafened at age 4. Entereded Archbishop Ryan Memorial Institute for the Deaf at age 8 and at 14 transferred to the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, graduating the latter in 1944. B.A. (1951) from Gallaudet College and M.S. from University of Pennsylvania, plus postgraduate study at several universities. Taught English and drama at Gallaudet, then dean of students at New York School for the Deaf (Fanwood). A founding member of the National Theatre of the Deaf during 1967-1968, then returned to NTD 1980- .
