Summary
Born at Coal Run, OH; deaf from fever and measles at age 3. Attended the Ohio School for the deaf, ages 9-19, learning shoemaking there. In 1885, moved to Byesville, OH, and opened a shoemaking shop there, later shifting his emphasis to harness making but staying in the shoe making and repair business, with a specialty in custom work for deformed and crooked feet.
