Summary
Born deaf at Akron, OH to a deaf couple. Entered the Ohio School for the Deaf at age 6, graduating in 1943. Went to Gallaudet College (B.A., 1947). Master's from the University of Tennessee (1957), second master's from California State University at Northridge (1968). Teacher at South Dakota, Tennessee, and Indiana Schools for the deaf before teaching in a California public school and then at Golden West College. Administered a deaf-blind program in Delaware, taught at Ohlone College, then administered a 4-state interpreter training program. Director of the Gallaudet College Regional Center at Ohlone College before her retirement. Co-author of Deaf Women: A Parade through the Decades. Married Roy Kay Holcomb (q.v.) in 1947. Took early retirement in 1985 due to health problems. Autobiography is The Sounds of Silence.
