Summary
Deaf at 6 months from a fall; grew up in Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario, but moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1947. Married Jennie Diekman in 1949; after her 1969 death, remarried to Shirley Elliott in 1970. Worked as an inspector at the American Seating Company. Took flying lessons so he could more easily visit his relatives back in Sault Sainte Marie, and also with the eventual objective of regularly flying into western Michigan to do Baptist missionary work among the deaf there. Licensed as a pilot in 1956.
