              Summary
              Born in Prince George, BC; deaf from spinal meningitis at age 10 months. Jericho Hill School for the Deaf, also taking some courses in local public schools at the same time. Entered Gallaudet College in 1977, but did not complete her studies. Participated as a swimmer for Canada in the 1973 and 1977 World Games for the Deaf. After leaving Gallaudet, held a variety of short-term jobs before settling down as an ASL and Deaf Studies instructor at Vancouver Community College. Husband Mijo Flanak was also deaf.
