Summary
Significantly hard of hearing; while it was never publicized, his teammates, family and friends knew of his hearing problem and his way of controlling conversations and situations to deflect people away from his deafness. Despite this, he was a pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1950s and eventually became director of scouting for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
