Summary
Hearing. A physician who tutored a deaf Irish boy, Thomas Collins (q.v.). His success led Orpen to establish the first school for the deaf in Ireland, the National Institution for the Deaf and Dumb of Ireland (also called the Claremont Insitution) at Claremont, Glasnevin, in Dublin in 1816. He also authored Anecdotes and Annals of the Deaf and Dumb (1836).
