Born at Prattsville, AR; graduated Gallaudet College and earned an M.A. from American University. Economics-related jobs at the Census Bureau, Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and the Brookings Institute before becoming professor of economics for over 30 years at Gallaudet College, retiring 1989. Published several volumes of poetry, including Bitterweed; winner of AAUW poetry contest 3 years straight in the 1930s. Oldest athete in the World Games for the Deaf, when he played tennis in the 1965 Games at age 46.
