Summary
Probably born at Deptford; attended Braidwood academies for the deaf first at Edinburgh and then at London (Hackney) for almost 10 years. His success in those expensive private schools inspired a minister, John Townshend, to found a charitable school to bring education to poor deaf children. This became the Bermondsey school for the deaf, Britain's first public school for deaf children. Creasy himself became a teacher at this school, tutoring both private (paid) and charity pupils during the period 1829-1855.
