Summary
Born deaf at Waterford, NS; attended the Halifax School for the Deaf, then graduated the Interprovincial School for the Deaf in 1970. Took a 1-year hairdressing training course and worked as a shampoo girl in a salon, but as she was never allowed to actually use her hairdressing skills on customers, she went into business for herself. After 7 years, she took a business-college course in data entry and worked at that for Sears for 11 years until laid off. Completed a high school equivalency diploma in a deaf program at Nova Scotia Community College in 1997and became coordinator of a deaf literacy program in Nova Scotia.
