Hussey, Hester Judith Johnston

Deafness, from unknown causes, not discovered until age 2. Attended Jericho Hill School for the Deaf ages 5-17. Married David John Hussey, also deaf. In addition to 2 deaf daughters of their own, they fostered 5 deaf adolescent girls and served as group-home workers and residence staff for deaf persons. She earned an early childhood education certificate from Douglas College. 1979-1993, worked with deaf children and their families in a variety of ways; 1993-1997, was a child care counsellor for a provincial government special education department, 1997-1999 a similar part-time position at the Victory Hill Residence, then 1999-2001 worked with the Jericho Individual Compensation Program.
