              Born deaf and blind in his left eye at the Navajo Nation, Manuelito, NM. Entered the New Mexico School for the Deaf in 1954, aged 11. As the vision in his right eye also declined, he transferred to the Perkins School for the Blind 1956-1965. Attended a training center for the blind in New Mexico 1965-1972, learning to make brooms. 1973-1982, he worked at the Lighthouse for the Blind until that was shuttered. Back in New Mexico, he got jobs making string mops and tire mats, 1982 onward.
