              Born deaf in Ireland; privately tutored at home, then went to the Institution Nationale des Sourds-Muets in Paris at age 10. After his father's death, became Lord Carberry of Laxton Hall, Northamptonshire. In addition to Laxton Hall, his estates included Castle Freke in County Cork, Ireland. Married Catherine Shuldham (deaf?). Active in St. Saviour's Church for the Deaf and the National Deaf and Dumb Society, serving as the NDDS's first president.
