Hard of hearing. Deafness diagnosed at age 4. Earned a pilot's license in Sweden; helped found several flying associations, including the 500-strong flying society at the University of Linkoping (Sweden), where he graduated. Hoped to become the first "hearing-impaired" pilot to make a round-the-world flight (with 2 hearing co-pilots and beginning in March 2006), to bring attention to hearing impairment, and to demonstrate how technology can enable disabled people to do almost anything.
