Summary
Hearing. Born at Fousseret; was trained under the Abbe de l'Epee; became an abbe himself; headmaster at the Bordeaux school for the deaf, 1786-1790, and at the National Institution for the Deaf, Paris, 1790-1822. He almost lost his life in the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution. After a period of exile, during which he wrote several books on deaf education and sign language, he returned to the National Institute and died while still headmaster.
