Summary
Grew up in Fairbury, IL; hearing impairment developed between 3 and 6 years of age. Her family moved several times before she graduated a public high school in Arizona in 1975. She attended the University of Arizona, where for the first time she encountered other deaf people, sign language, and special services for the deaf. Graduated in 1980 and worked as a rehabilitation counselor in CA. In 1987, she quit her job to pursue her dream of traveling around the world, which she did 1988-1989. She then earned a master's degree in school psychology at Gallaudet University (1992), and went back to California, working as a pschologist at the California School for the Deaf, Fremont. She made more major world travels in 1996 and planned to make as many more as she could.
