Summary
Born at Woodside, Dumfrieshire; entered the Edinburgh Institution for the Deaf and Dumb in 1811 until 1817, when he became an assistant teacher in that school, the first deaf teacher of the deaf in Scotland. He is known to have worked at the Edinburgh school at least until 1827, but then disappears from the records.
