Summary
Born deaf and died at Fredericksburg, VA; son of General Hugh Mercer, Revolutionary War hero. William's brother George was also deaf. Student of Charles Willson Peale in Philadelphia, where Mercer mainly lived. Noted for his portraits and miniatures.
