Summary
Born deaf or deafened at age 7 (sources differ). Commissioned by the Vatican for some sculptures; the Austrian Emperor gave him his own large studio free of charge. Also noted for his sonnets, collected and published as Die Sonette an Gott (Sonnets to God), 1923, and Einer Toten (To a Dead Love), 1937. Died at Vienna.
