Howes, Alfred

Deaf from scarlet fever at an early age; educated in the London County Council Deaf Schools, first at the Ackman Road school and then the one at Anerley, training as a cabinetmaker in the latter. Went to work for the Morris firm; during World War I, was engaged in making wooden airplane propellers.
