Summary
Late deafened; first known deaf or hard of hearing American woman artist to exhibit professionally. Born at Waterville, NY; married young but lost her husband to death a few years later. Began art studies while still young but did not seriously take it up until age 40, around the time her hearing was mostly gone. Studied in France and Holland 1873-1883. She is noted for her landscapes in both oil and watercolor.
