Summary
Born at Covington, OH; deafened about age 9; graduated Ohio School for the Deaf; bachelor's degree (1904) and honorary doctorate (1949) from Gallaudet College; master's degree from University of Maryland. Supervisor and teacher at the California School for the Deaf (Berkeley) and the Nebraska School for the Deaf. In 1911, became manager of the Gallaudet College farm and teacher in agriculture. Led the fundraising effort for the Gallaudet College building now known as the Edward Miner Gallaudet Memorial Building; retired in 1949; died at Piqua, OH. Drake House (no longer standing) on the Gallaudet University campus was named for him and his family, who lived there 24 years.
