              Supposedly deafened at age 20 months by hot grease accidently spilled on his head. Ontario Institution for the deaf 1871-1875; married Louisa Noyes in 1876. Lived in Denfield, ON, then moved to a homestead near Cupar in 1903, staying there until 1926 with one brief interruption.
