Summary
Born at Virginia, MN and deafened at age 3. At first mistakenly diagnosed as mentally handicapped and placed in the Minnesota State Asylum for the Feeble-Minded, he was soon found to be only deaf, and transferred to the Minnesota School for the Deaf and graduated in 1935; attained the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts. Graduated Gallaudet College 1940 and worked at a number of Washington DC and Ohio newspapers before settling in Minneapolis, MN and working 38 years for the Star-Tribune as a compositor, linotype operator, and proofreader. Married Evelyn Steinman, also deaf. Active in bowling leagues, printing unions, and local deaf organizations; wrote articles for several deaf magazines and newspapers. Died from natural causes associated with Alzheimer's disease.
