Summary
Born at Baltimore and deafened by measles at age 3. Educated at the Maryland School for the deaf, then became a teacher in the Maryland School for Colored Blind and Deaf in Baltimore from 1888 on. Also active in missionary work among both the white and black deaf people of Baltimore. Founded the Christ United Methodist Church for the Deaf in 1896 and the Whatcoat Epworth Methodist Episcopal Church for black deaf in 1905.
