Summary
Born at Delhaven, NS; deaf at age 3 from scarlet fever. Graduated the Halifax School for the Deaf 1938-1946, and was recommended to the Gaelic Foundation of Nova Scotia to become a professional weaver of traditional Scottish tartans; she graduated Gaelic College in 1949 and wove tartans for many years. One of her tartan rugs was chosen for presentation to Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen Elizabeth II, on her 1949 visit to Canada. Married Leonard Buchanan, also deaf.
