Summary
Born at Sydney, NS and deafened at 5 from spinal meningitis. Halifax School for the Deaf 1956-1961, then the Interprovincial School for the Deaf 1961-1968. An attempt to mainstream her in a public school failed without an interpreter and she instead attended the Atlantic Technological Vocational Centre, graduating 1970. Worked 1972-1979 as a teaching assistant in a mainstreamed public school, then took 6 years off to start a family. Returned to work again as a teaching assistant, then became a teacher of ASL in a public elementary school and also at a community college. Married a hearing man.
