Summary
Born at Bradford, England; attended local schools, then studied at the Bradford School of Art 1953-1954.After a time as a hospital worker, entered the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1961. A trip to California inspired him to move there permanently, though he never became a US citizen. His hearing declined during the 1970s, becoming profound by the end of the decade; during this time, he also became more open about his being gay. Has put on many one-man shows; designed stage and opera sets; author and/or illustrator of many books.
