Summary
Born near Roland, IA; entered the Iowa School for the deaf at age 10, graduating in 1893. Entered Gallaudet College briefly, but dropped out after one term due to a pre-college back injury. Baught a 160-acre farm near Terril, IA, and also planned to rent another 290-acre farm. In 1896, married Lizzie Porter, graduate of the Iowa School.
