Summary
Attended the Maryland School for the Colored Blind and Deaf in Overlea, graduating in 1942 at age 16. Her desire to attend college was frustrated since, at that time, Gallaudet College did not admit Blacks and she knew she would not be happy in a public (hearing) college for "coloreds". With special permission, she returned to the Overlea school and got additional education from deaf (white) teachers "fresh from Gallaudet College".
