Summary
Born in St. Louis, MO; deafened by spinal meningitis at 7. Briefly and unsuccessfully attended a St. Louis oral school, then entered the Missouri School for the deaf in 1877, finishing in 1880. Worked a short time as a printer, then went to Gallaudet College, graduating 1888. Became a teacher in the St. Louis Day School for the Deaf, then in 1889 to the Missouri School. Wrote several papers on deaf education and a history of the Missouri School, and was in charge of the school library. Instrumental in the founding of the school's alumni association.
